What is a run-a-thon?
We look forward to having our students, teachers and parents participate in the 3rd Annual Run-a-thon!
The Run-a-thon is a school-wide community event. This year the funds raised will help to improve the lives of many children in orphanages in Kenya. We have been supporting the Arap Moi Orphanage in Kenya for the past year since Don Patter, former teacher of ASLP has been working there. We have been very thankful to the school community in supporting this cause and have now been involved in helping two more orphanages in the same area.
Why do we run?
From an educational perspective the run-a-thon is a useful tool to teach students the value of solidarity to those who have less. This event also encourages our students to be physically active and healthy.
Last year the event was a huge success. The entire American School of Las Palmas community demonstrated spirit and motivation both during the running event and by raising over 5000 Euros from sponsors.
When is it?
The event will take place at school on Friday March 5th throughout the morning.
Students will run, jog, or walk around a 0.5 km course marked out on the school campus for a 30 minute period or “heat” and a fellow student will count the number of laps that student completes. Altogether there will be 6 heats, divided by age group.

Who can participate?
All American school students, teachers, administrators and other staff members will participate on this day. Just as last year, parents are encouraged to come and run with their child, or just to watch and cheer on our runners.
Sponsors
Students are encouraged to ask parents, family, friends, neighbours, etc. to sponsor them for every lap they run. Sponsors can also pledge a flat euro rate rather than per lap rate. Pledge cards with sponsors must be handed in by Tuesday March 2nd.
After the event students will bring back home their pledge cards with an envelope and collect the money they have raised. All forms and money should be handed into the class teacher or tutor by Friday March 12th.
Please, press the icon to start the download of the sponsor card.

What do I wear?
Students must wear their PE uniform and proper footwear for running. All students should bring a change of clothing in case it rains and they get caught in the rain.
