Arap Moi orphanage update |

Dear Parents;
Once again I would like to thank you for all the support you have shown and the contributions sent towards the orphanage fund-raising.
I would like to update you on what has been happening to all the money we raised at school since February 2009 for the Arap Moi Orphanage, Nakuru, Kenya. We chose to support this specific project because Mr. Don Patter, a former ASLP teacher now works in a school closely linked to the orphanage. All the money has gone into projects at the orphanage overseen by Don Patter. The money raised went directly towards the following projects:
- Tiling floors throughout all the dormitories & bathrooms in the orphanage
- Painting all dormitories and bathrooms throughout the orphanage
- Buying some new mattresses for the dormitories
- Building, painting & tiling a small Library
- Construction of a playground

I have been privileged to be able to visit the orphanage twice last year, once in the summer and another time at Christmas. One thing is the good feeling of solidarity one has whilst fund-raising, another thing is actually seeing the benefits of the money with your own eyes.

As children everywhere, they were warm, spontaneous, curious and energetic. Mr. Patter and I were able to buy over 100 books for the new library which we took in a box along with another 100 donated books as well. I will never forget the look of surprise and excitement on the children’s faces when they saw the books in the new library. They were clambering to look at the books and stroking the pages as if they had never seen a book in their lives.
At Christmas I arrived in time to see the installation of the new playground and it was wonderful to see the sheer delight and enchantment of the children’s faces when they could go on all the new climbing frames, slides and roundabouts.
I would like to continue the orphanage fund-raising this year whilst we still have direct contact with the orphanage through Mr. Patter. A big push for funds for the orphanage will be our annual ASLP run-a-thon scheduled for March 5th, 2010.

Dear parents,
As you already know, the Pre-school students have been involved in a very special project this week: baking cookies and raising money for Haiti. They have made endearing efforts and have shown great concern for this cause.
We have had great participation from all students and teachers and very kind contributions from parents. We would like to give a warm thank you to all members of the school community for their solidarity and involvement.
In total we have raised 1,100 euros and 58 cents! The money raised will be donated to Unicef who are currently sending emergency aid to children in Haiti.
