- SFL (Spanish as a Foreign Language)
- Offered to students in all grades as a support for learning Spanish and incorporating into the regular Spanish classroom.
- Structure of support is similar to ESL
- ESL (English as a Second Language)
- Most students’ native language is not English
- All students have one class per week
- Entrance exam results and progress determine whether extra support is needed
- A specialist with a degree from Cambridge teaches ESL in the classroom and coordinates with Target Teachers.
- Support is given for regular class work
- Frequent evaluations and assessments help to monitor progress and determine when students are prepared to fully incorporate into all classes
- Optimal Match
- Teachers are trained to identify students in need of SFL, ESL and/or other support services
- A referral procedure is followed and a Target Teacher is assigned
- Target Teacher provides individual or semi-individual support three hours per week
- All files and records are updated by teachers and reviewed several times per year by the counselor
- Close parent-teacher-counselor contact enables follow-up and progress
