December 1, 2008
Dear ASLP Community,
I would like to congratulate our students, staff, and parents for
participating in the 2nd Annual Run-athon on November 25th. This year
Ms. Athena organized the event with the help of many colleagues.
Students, teachers, and parents alike raised several thousand euros for
the Save The Children organization in Nigeria, Africa. The event
combines a strong sense of service for others along with good physical
excersice. Shortly after the run began I realized how much more
exercise I need. I am now training for next year!
As we enter the month of December and as our extended vacation
quickly approaches, I would like to take the time to thank you for your
help and support. As the new ASLP director it has been a lot of work,
but I have truly enjoyed getting to know the school and community. ASLP
is a wonderful school and Gran Canaria is a safe, clean and beautiful
island with friendly people, fantastic food, and a variety of cultural
events.
Below you will find important information regarding events and activities for the ASLP community for December and beyond.
SCHOOL – FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5TH
Whereas
most schools will not have classes this day, ASLP will maintain a
normal day as originally planned and scheduled on the school calendar.
NO SCHOOL – MONDAY, DECEMBER 8TH
Dia de la Inmaculada Concepcion is a nationally recognized
holiday. ASLP will not have classes or after-school activities this
day.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL
You are cordially
invited to attend this year’s Christmas concert, A Christmas Carol will
be performed by ASLP students on Wednesday, December 11th at 7:00pm at
the Colegio Jesuitas in Vegueta.
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL – FRIDAY, DECEMBER 19TH
Friday, December 19th is the last day of school before vacation begins.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL – THURSDAY, JANUARY 8TH
Thursday, January 8th will be the first day of school following the extended vacation. Classes begin at 8:30am.
SENIOR GRADUATION
Despite the initial
plans for June 6th, this school year’s Senior Graduation will be May
23rd in the Auditoria Alfredo Krauss. The original date was unavailable
at the two locations the school had considered appropriate for the
ceremony.
REPORT CARDS
Trimester report cards for preschool through middle school
students will be available on Wednesday, December 17th. High school
students are the semester system and will not receive report cards
until February 10th.
LOCKERS
All students should have been
assigned a lock and locker. Two weeks ago the proposal for a structure
to cover the lockers from rain was approved. It should be installed by
the end of this week. If you believe your child has not been given a
locker or lock please contact Ms. Arancha in the main office. In
addition, all grade levels have been given top, middle, and bottom
lockers. Unfortunately, most students would prefer not to have a bottom
locker. At this point we are only making changes for those students who
have medical conditions that prohibit them from using the bottom
locker. Such a request should be given to the main office with an
accompanying letter or certificate from the student’s physician. I
appreciate your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Nathan Walker
