ASLP was awarded a plaque by Save the Children for raising awareness and participating once again in a run-a-thon to raise money for a good cause. The representative, Juan Guilló Jiménez, came to school to present us with the plaque. At the same time, ASLP students and director handed the check for 2,897€ to Mr. Guilló Jiménez.
A few weeks before, the entire ASLP community ran laps in a solidarity race to help the Rohingya refugee children in Bangladesh. Around 400 people took part in this event which is now a race we all look forward to. This run-a-thon was our most eco-friendly race so far; all students were required to bring their own water bottles because we did not provide disposable cups.
The day began with our youngest members in Pre-School while the rest of the school was there to cheer them on. Different groups (Pre-School, Elementary, Middle School and Upper School) of students ran or walked non-stop from 10:00-13:30. At the same time, we had many student cheerleaders and music performances to keep the atmosphere positive and enthusiastic.
This year we had help from different business who collaborated with us. ASLP would like to thank Laister Gran Canaria and Cima Running for lending us their incredible inflatable arches which we used for our starting and finish lines respectively. We would also like to thank Aguacana S.A. for donating water (Agua Mineral Natural Fuente Bruma) for our water station. Finally, we would also like to thank father/chef Stefano Amorosi for making 200 mini pizzas for our secondary students for when they finished the race.
This year, students from Upper School were the ones responsible for setting up and helping to organize the entire event from handing out race numbers, to setting up the sound system to helping with the inflatable arches. As students finished, they were rewarded with a finisher medal, water and fruit.
